Chicago Blackhawks Organization Issues Massive Announcement Regarding Former Rangers Superstar
Former New York Ranger and Chicago Blackhawks superstar Patrick Kane has been awarded his own day in the Windy City. For Kane, August 8th is now "Patrick Kane" day in the City where he won three Stanley Cups. He issued a statement upon the honors received today.
Former New York Rangers superstar Patrick Kane will have a day honoring him in August of every year. That day is on August 8th, a namesake for his number, which he's worn his entire career, #88.
It's the number that he's worn in Detroit, Chicago, and New York. However, this time it will signify something more, as the city shows the appreciation for the efforts he's put into making Chicago into something bigger.
Patrick Kane Shares Thoughts With Chicago
After all was said and done, Patrick Kane would issue a statement about the ceremony for him. The day felt special to him.
"It was just so quickly the way everything ended. Getting traded to New York, then I had the hip surgery, then I was rehabbing in Toronto for all that season, then picking a team and going to Detroit, and then last year just getting my feet under myself after all that chaos during the offseason and then going back to Detroit, it was like, let's find a way to do something."
"Obviously it was special coming back, being able to play here as a visiting player a couple of times, but I think this day is so special and such a big honor for me. It really means a lot. It's so special to have this in writing and have it be Patrick Kane Day. It's very special."
«I have the same feeling every time I drive into the city for the first time and see the skyline and the water and the city, it's just such a great feeling. Always nice to spend the offseasons here. Like I said before, we had some great runs, some great accomplishments here, and Chicago feels like home now."

Joining him today to usher in a new era in Chicago history was Alderman Brian Hopkins, who announced the day itself.
Kane was happy to be home in Chicago and glad to be a part of such rich hockey history in the 2010s.
Given how much of a connection he has with the city, you have to wonder if he gets one more lap in the Blackhawks uniform before he retires?
