Chris Drury And The New York Rangers Shockingly Linked To 900+ Game NHL Veteran
The New York Rangers don't have much in the way of cap space. For what they do have, they could acquire another depth player in Max Pacioretty, who is no longer in his prime (but a UFA), and could serve as an ancillary 13th forward, and can play on the power-play as well. Would GM Chris Drury spend to the ceiling to acquire him?
The Toronto Maple Leafs haven't signed Max Pacioretty, and it is now August. You have to wonder what their priorities are, and if he is in them, if Brad Treliving still hasn't gotten a signing done.
For other teams, this remains an opportunity as they could benefit from swooping up 17-year NHL veteran, Pacioretty.
He could offer a physical presence in the lineup and could come in handy in some situations in the Stanley Cup playoffs.
Toronto GM Brad Treliving had said he was interested in re-engaging with Patches and potentially re-signing him
For the Rangers, this could be a bargain signing with only $777K of cap space left.
The Hockey News' Michael Augello links the New York Rangers to Max Pacioretty.
Patches and Rangers
The New York Rangers had interest in Pacioretty during the 2024 NHL trade deadline, but were unable to make it happen as he stuck with the Washington Capitals that season.
At that point in his career, he was still recovering from his twice-injured Achilles heel.
But now seems the perfect time to strike, as he's a UFA and remains unsigned.
In 37 games with the Maple Leafs, he scored 13 points (5-8) while making $873K as a veteran NHLer.
