Conflicting reports surface regarding Adam Fox's return to the Rangers lineup following latest development

Adam Fox took power-play reps for the New York Rangers, and the Hurricanes game suddenly matters more.
Sunday's practice brought the biggest visual step yet, Fox ditched the red non-contact look and worked in regular gear. Peter Baugh also noted Fox jumped onto the top power-play unit in Scott Morrow's spot.
Adam Fox is out of the red jersey at practice today. However, he is partnered with Urho Vaakanainen.
That's why the chatter is getting louder, even if nothing is official yet. Fox has been on LTIR since late November after an upper-body injury against Tampa Bay. Before he got hurt, Fox was driving the whole engine room from the back end. He has 26 points in 27 games this season, with 23 assists, and he's averaging 23:50 a night.
The contract context matters too, because this is the guy the Rangers built around. Fox is 27, a 2016 third-round pick by Calgary, and he carries a $9.5 million cap hit through 2028-29.
Morrow's name popping up is not random, he came over in the K'Andre Miller deal and has been one of the blue-line options by necessity. Now, Fox taking those PP1 colors back is a pretty blunt signal.
So here's the conflict Rangers fans are living in right now. Some see the regular jersey and say he's tracking for Monday against the Carolina Hurricanes, while others circle Friday's Winter Classic stage instead.
Interesting, Adam Fox is now giving it a go with the top unit in Scott Morrow's place... He's switched into power play colors.
Fox is practicing in full today but looks like he may not be in the lineup tomorrow against Carolina.
Maybe aiming for the Winter Classic?

Florida is also not a «warm-up» opponent, they're the back-to-back Stanley Cup champs. If the Rangers want one return date that feels clean and controlled, you can see why Monday gets mentioned.
Adam Fox return lifts New York Rangers power play
Honestly, this is the first practice note in weeks that actually made it feel like the Rangers are close to getting their identity back. If Fox is touching PP1 again, the organization clearly thinks the finish line is near.
Tactically, his value is simple to spot, he calms exits with one clean first pass and turns broken plays into controlled entries. On the power play, he keeps pucks alive at the blue line and changes shooting lanes fast.
The Rangers signed Vladislav Gavrikov with Fox in mind, and the team has openly framed them as a long-term fit. If Fox is activated, that pairing becomes the obvious place to start.
If the Rangers choose patience, Friday's outdoor spotlight versus Florida will be the next milestone fans circle anyway. Either way, the next lineup card with Adam Fox's name on it will feel like a reset button.
