Elliotte Friedman reveals his take on the New York Rangers selecting J.T Miller as captain
JT Miller was named the New York Rangers' 29th Captain last week. It was a surprising choice for the team, whom NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman believed the team was going to choose Vinnie Trocheck instead of the former Canuck.
JT Miller has begun a new era in New York Rangers hockey as the team's 29th Captain.
That news broke last week, and caused pundits and analysts alike to share mixed emotions about the choice. Considering his past in Vancouver, was he the right choice?
For NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman, he believes the New York Rangers chose someone newer in the locker room for a particular reason.
That was due to the fact that last year's performance was unacceptable, and instead of going with someone who was a part of that team last season, Miller was the better option.
The No B.S. Era Begins in New York with JT Miller
Miller, who has taken the leadership by storm, has ushered in a new era of Rangers hockey this year.
His "No B.S." shirts have captured the consciousness of the locker room, as players such as Matt Rempe have bought into the attitude, wearing the shirts with purpose.
Miller ended the season scoring 70 points (35-35) split between the Rangers and Canucks.
Given how much of an influence he's been in the locker room, it's no wonder that Chris Drury feels he'll be the best leader for the Rangers.
He's not been an issue in the locker room and has elevated one of his teammates (Mika Zibanejad's) play last year.
Though Vinnie Trocheck was a strong candidate, we're still awestruck by what effect the former Canucks forward can have in New York.
