Former New York Rangers 6'6 Draft Pick Ends AHL Tenure: Secures New Contract Overseas
According recent reports this morning, former New York Rangers 6'6 draft pick has decided to leave North America and the American Hockey League to sign a new contract overseas.
It has been announced that 27-year old forward Tim Gettinger is officially signing a new deal overseas with the Schwenninger Wild Wings of the DEL. The Schwenninger Wild Wings are a professional German ice hockey team from Villingen-Schwenningen in Baden-Wuerttemberg.
After this past season Gettinger has decided to move on from the AHL and NHL, as this he only managed to play 54 games with the Grand Rapids Griffins, tallying 16 points (7 G, 9 A). Along with being a minus-eight with 19 penalty minutes.
Tim Gettinger's Time With The New York Rangers Was Short Lived
The New York Rangers originally drafted Tim Gettinger 141st overall during the 5th round in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.
Gettinger then joined the New York Rangers organization during the 2018-19 season where he made his NHL debut, but unfortunately nothing materialized from this as he only went on to make a total of 16 appearances for the Rangers, where he tallied an assist.
Gettinger spent most his time with the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League, the Rangers affiliate team before he managed to sign with the Detroit Red Wings as a free agent on July 1st, 2023.
Gettinger played in 237 games for the Hartford Wolf Pack, recording 133 points on 62 goals and 71 assists. He was a minus-two with 25 power-play goals, three shorthanded goals, 12 game-winning goals, and 126 penalty minutes.
After Gettinger joined the Red Wings he was than later placed on waivers, where he ended up clearing and joining the Grand Rapids Griffins of the AHL.
He spent two seasons with the Griffins, playing in 109 games, recording 41 points on 19 goals and 22 assists. Gettinger was a minus-nine with four power-play goals and 20 penalty minutes.
However, he now concludes his AHL tenure, appearing in 346 games, recording 174 points on 81 goals and 93 assists, and will take his professional career overseas.
