Full Breakdown Of What The New York Rangers Must Complete Before Opening-Night Game
The New York Rangers opening-night game against the Pittsburgh Penguins is now just one day away, leaving the organization no choice but to finalize their roster now.
Thanks to Rangers insider, Vince Z. Mercogliano, he has provided us with a complete breakdown of what the organization must complete today (Oct 6th), in order to have their roster finalized.
Here's what needs to be done:
So, to recap where the #NYR roster stands entering the final practice before opening night:
- No Rangers were placed on waivers Sunday, which is a good sign for Jonny Brodzinski, Sam Carrick and Juuso Pärssinen. It appears all three Cs have made the team + other waiver-eligible players such as Matt Rempe and Matthew Robertson.
- Signs are pointing to Conor Sheary (PTO) getting a contract and taking another forward spot, but we'll wait on official word.
- If Sheary signs and makes the team, the Rangers will be left with 24 players (including 15 forwards) and have to cut at least one of Brett Berard or Noah Laba. They're the only remaining players who wouldn't require waivers for reassignment. They could cut one and keep 14F if there are lingering concerns about injuries to J.T. Miller and Artemi Panarin, otherwise there's a chance that both get sent down.
