New York Rangers star goaltender has just recently revealed the exact reason why he decided to go after two Detroit Red Wings forwards on Sunday night, which sparked a bench-clearing brawl.
As we all know, things got a little heated between the New York Rangers and Detroit Red Wings on Sunday night, and the one player who was in the mix of it throughout the entire night was veteran goaltender Jonathan Quick.
Throughout the entire night, it was clear that Quick was annoyed, something that really started during the second period of the game, as the 39-year-old goaltender was spotted screaming at the NHL officials after the Red Wings had gotten their first goal of the game while being on the power play.
I asked Quick about this, too.
"It was confusion. You're getting tripped in your crease. That's supposed to be a whistle right away. It's tough enough killing a penalty as is. When you've got guys in the crease tripping you, it makes it more difficult.»

Here's a look at the Red Wings' first goal of the game:
Jonathan Quick is not a fan of Mason Appleton's empty net shot after the game
After the game on Sunday night, Quick made it very clear as to why he went after Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin and forward Mason Appleton.
"The horn goes, a couple seconds [pass], [Appleton] shoots it in the net. I don't know why they were surprised," Quick told reporters after the game.
"It's usually the response when something like that happens. So, boys jumped in...did the right thing."

Following this, Quick was asked if anything throughout the game had played a factor in his decision, and again he was very clear that it was two separate things.
"No, it's a complete separate issue from the 60 minutes that took place. And then the couple seconds and then he shoots it, right? That's just that.
So for him to have the reaction that he did at the end of the game, which resulted in both benches clearing and participating in a heated altercation, may have been an overreaction, but it's certainly a fair one.
