J.T. Miller snapped after a New York Rangers slow start turned into an Ottawa Senators 8-4 loss on Wednesday night.
The captain didn't dance around it when asked if the early hole set a bad tone. Miller fired back with an uncensored «No sh**,» then said they can't keep spotting teams 4-0 leads.
That first period was the whole story, Ottawa scored four times, and the Garden went sour fast. The Senators kept the puck moving east to west, and the New York Rangers coverage chased instead of sorting bodies.
It somehow got worse before it got better. Ottawa ran it to 6-0 in the second, and Jonathan Quick was pulled after allowing six goals on 17 shots.
Then the Rangers finally showed some pushback, with rookie Gabe Perreault scoring twice and New York briefly making it noisy. It still ended 8-4, because Ottawa answered every wobble with another punch.
However, the bigger problem is the pattern, not the profanity. New York has dropped five straight, sits at 5-13-4 at home, and the crowd is letting everyone hear it.
J.T. Miller and New York Rangers pride response
Honestly, the «No sh**» line sounded like fans finally getting a voice, because patience at MSG is basically gone.
J.T. Miller on the 8-4 loss: «Bad first period. We responded. Played pretty well after that.»
Did getting behind the eight ball early set the tone in a negative way? «No shit. We'd like to not be down 4-0 after the first but after that we responded well. Played with some pride.»

After the first period, the Rangers actually played with pace and got pucks behind Ottawa's defense. The issue is you can't flip that switch only after you're down four, the league is too sharp.
The next milestone is simple, give the building a reason to believe before the game is already broken.
