The Toronto Maple Leafs in the New York Rangers are preparing themselves for unrestricted free agency and it appears that the Rangers will take a run at pending unrestricted free agent Mitch Marner.

The 28-year-old superstar has seen his career in Toronto likely come to an end after the Maple Leafs were kicked out of the playoffs in terrible fashion after losing 6-1 in Game 7 at home.

Marner would be a huge boost for the Rangers offense

Signing a player like Marner would give the Rangers a new look on their power play, offence and even penalty killing as the Maple Leafs had used him in multiple roles.
This season was the first time he had cracked the 100-point mark as he had played 81 games, scoring 27 goals with 75 assists for 102 points and was a + 18.
Marner has made it clear that he is not interested in remaining with the Maple Leafs as he was offered the contract prior to the trade deadline, along with a trade request to the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for Mikko Rantanen.
Changes in the air for Toronto which could also lead to another link to the Rangers in the form of a trade to acquire Chris Kreider.

Kreider to the Maple Leafs could fit the Blue and White

On the flip side, it's possible that general manager Brad Treliving could reach out to general manager Chris Drury and see if a trade can be worked out to bring Kreider into the Maple Leafs.
Krieder holds two years remaining on his deal that's worth $6.5 million per season he also has a 15 team no trade list which is not a full movement clause and gives the Rangers some flexibility.
The understanding is that the Rangers will move off his contract this offseason, and if the Maple Leafs are looking for a scoring forward on their top six with a minimal contract in term, Kreider could be their answer.
Both organizations will be undergoing change this summer and it will be fascinating on how it will all workout as both teams are in desperate need of a shake up.
