Mike Sullivan's received troubling news on his son-in-law, Charlie McAvoy of the Boston Bruins. The Bruins defenseman could be out indefinitely after taking a puck to the face.

On November 15th's original six matchup between the Boston Bruins and Montreal Canadiens, Charlie McAvoy would suffer a terrible injury. He'd take a one-timer to his face after Noah Dobson shot the puck.
He'd leave the game afterwards, and hasn't been in the lineup since. A troubling piece of news for Sullivan, as McAvoy is married to his daughter.
McAvoy's been out, and according to NHL Insider Fluto Shinzawa, who covers the Bruins, he's undergone surgery for his injury.
There's no timeline for return, season-altering news for the Bruins defenseman.

There is no timeline for his return.

This could spell bad news for the Rangers, as Sullivan may require more time in order to support his family, which includes the Bruins' top defenseman.
Rivalries be damned when it comes to family matters.

Mike Sullivan's brief absence, A small spell of bad luck for the New York Rangers?

Mike Sullivan left the team abruptly this week as he had personal matters to attend to, though he wouldn't go into detail about the "why" behind it.
He rejoined the team on their last match-up against the Vegas Golden Knights, and we still haven't received many answers behind his absence.
We suspect that McAvoy is behind it, considering he is his son-in-law, and Sullivan and the rest of the family could be helping his daughter weather the storm behind the scenes.
«I don't have an update right now, obviously, from the coaches to the players of the organization, we certainly are thinking about Mike and his family, and never an easy situation,» Quinn said. «Attending family, that's all I can give you right now.»

With Sullivan back, the Rangers could jump back into the Metropolitan Division race after losing the last two games to the Vegas Golden Knights and Detroit Red Wings.
