New York Rangers Acquire $29.4 Million Defenseman In Intriguing Trade Pitch With The Seattle Kraken
The New York Rangers will need to bolster the blueline in order to keep their window of contention open.
For GM Chris Drury, that would mean a trade this late in the offseason, and there's been an intriguing trade proposal made by Heavy.com, between the Rangers and the Seattle Kraken for Vince Dunn. One Ranger involved is Carson Soucy.
GM Chris Drury of the New York Rangers has to put the team on the right path, and that involves starting the season strong. The team would begin 2024-25 with a 12-4-0 start and would drop off dramatically.
The Rangers would seek to improve their blueline by trading K'Andre Miller for Scott Morrow and signing Vladislav Gavrikov. The team could make another move before the beginning of the season on October 7th against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Vince Dunn To The Rangers for Carson Soucy, Drew Fortescue, and a Conditional Pick
For that, it'd require a multi-piece trade involving Carson Soucy, Drew Fortescue, and a conditional second-round pick in 2028.
The team would send this package to Seattle for Vince Dunn, who has been a key piece in the Kraken's lineup.
While they'd receive Carson Soucy back, along with a prospect in Drew Fortescue, and a potential 1st-round pick depending on how well the Rangers perform with Dunn in the lineup.
New York Rangers acquire: Vince Dunn
Seattle Kraken acquire: Drew Fortescue, Carson Soucy, and a conditional 2028 second-round pick that becomes a 2027 first-round pick if the Rangers make the Eastern Conference Finals in 2026 or 2027.

Dunn would be the elite left-shot defenseman the team needs to push deep into the postseason. The Kraken are rebuilding and could use the pieces acquired in the trade to build out for the future.
While Dunn, who is a responsible two-way defenseman, could find a way to contribute the same production we've seen in Seattle, as he scored 64 points (14-50) in 2024-25.
With the defenseman signed for another year, and the Kraken unlikely to compete in the postseason, the team could do more by trading him at this point in his career.
