New York Rangers captain J.T. Miller finds a new sense of confidence following an overtime goal against the St. Louis Blues on Thursday night. His third of the 2025-26 season.

The Rangers captain has been openly hard on himself this season, and he hasn't hidden it. After another overtime winner, his third in recent weeks, Miller acknowledged that those moments are helping him regain confidence during a stretch that hasn't always felt right.
Miller's latest overtime goal sealed a 2-1 win against the St. Louis Blues and capped a night where the Rangers desperately needed leadership to show up when the margin was thin. For Miller, it was another reminder that even when the game feels off, his impact still matters.
Following the game, Miller admitted that his play hasn't felt the same as it did early in the season. The effort has been there, but the results haven't always followed. That disconnect can weigh heavily on a captain, especially one who measures himself by outcomes, not intentions.

Miller now owns 17 career overtime goals, the most ever by an American-born player, a stat that underscores how often he rises when games tilt toward chaos. Those goals don't erase frustration, but they do steady it.
His comments about confidence came after the game, reflecting a player who knows he's close, even if it hasn't felt perfect.
"It's good for the confidence. Last couple weeks, I feel like my games there. I don't think it's kind of back to the same as the beginning of the year. It's like not getting as much as I'd like, I think, on the scoresheet. But I got to believe that if you just play like that most games than not over the course of the season, good things will happen. Just try to be confident."
For the Rangers, Miller's self-awareness matters. Leadership isn't pretending everything is fine. It's acknowledging struggle and still delivering when the team needs it.
The last few weeks haven't been easy for New York, with scoring droughts and outside noise piling up. Miller hasn't run from that pressure.
