New York Rangers official lineups vs the Capitals: Drastic changes have been made with Adam Fox's return
Taking a quick look at the Rangers official lineups as Adam Fox returns ahead of facing the Washington Capitals, and Scott Morrow heads to Hartford Wolf Pack.
The Rangers get the matinee vibe in Washington at 12:30 PM, and they're sticking with almost the same forward group they rolled in Carolina.
Artemi Panarin stays tied to Mika Zibanejad and now Will Cuylle, while Alexis Lafreniere stays in the top six next to Vincent Trocheck and Gabe Perreault. The bottom six look remains about pace and forecheck, not pretty hockey.
NYR warmup rushes for game No. 42 vs. #ALLCAPS at Capital One Arena:
Panarin - Zibanejad - Cuylle
Perreault - Trocheck - Lafrenière
Sheary - Laba - Raddysh

The real shift is on the back end, because Fox is officially activated off LTIR and ready to re-enter the lineup. To make the roster math work, Scott Morrow was reassigned to AHL Hartford.
During warmups, the pairs were the ones fans have been begging for, Fox next to Vladislav Gavrikov, with Carson Soucy beside Matthew Robertson and Will Borgen alongside Braden Schneider. It's a very different feel than the patchwork weeks.
Fox has missed 14 straight games since the upper-body injury, and his return isn't just symbolic. He had 26 points in 27 games before he went down, and the Rangers badly missed that first pass and blue-line calm.
Adam Fox return reshapes Rangers defense in Washington
Morrow's audition was real, not perfect, but useful, especially on nights when the power play needed a right-shot point option. The Rangers choosing to send him down tells you they want stability now, not experiments.
If Fox looks comfortable taking contact early, this blue line suddenly has roles again instead of guesses. The next milestone is simple, get through this Washington game clean, then roll that confidence straight into the Winter Classic stretch and even for Team USA at the 2026 Olympics.
