The New York Rangers intentionally created a monster in the NHL. That is with the tandem of Jonathan Quick and Igor Shesterkin. Not only are they monsters in the net, but their cap hit is quite exuberant as well, thanks to General Manager Chris Drury.

The New York Rangers have an elite goaltender in Igor Shesterkin and a solid backup in Jonathan Quick.
Neither goaltender has been the one to take the team on a Stanley Cup run, but Shesterkin has been a reliable goalie during his time in New York.
With a career record of 2.52 GAA and .917 save percentage in the NHL, not too shabby for someone who made the leap into the starter's net after Henrik Lundqvist.
But when it comes to his contract, it's the most expensive contract we've seen for an NHL goalie. A precedent set by another legend before him, Carey Price ($10.5 million average annual value).
Shesterkin's cap hit? A cool $11.5 million AAV, and Jonathan Quick's$1.5 million AAV.

The New York Rangers Have $13 million tied in Goaltending

In what could be construed as a failure of cap management, the team has $13.050 million tied up in Jonathan Quick and Igor Shesterkin.
This is an expensive gamble for one goalie who is past his prime, and another who, despite winning a Vezina Trophy, hasn't been able to take the team to the Stanley Cup finals, unlike his predecessor, Henrik Lundqvist.
It'd make sense if the team had success with Shesterkin and came close to winning a cup. But they've only ever been able to make it to the Eastern Conference Finals.
The biggest gamble of them both is Shesterkin, who has become the highest-paid goalie in the NHL, without the hardware to show for it.
