The New York Rangers confirmed Matt Rempe and Gabe Perreault will not play against the Nashville Predators tonight due to illness, creating two unexpected holes in the lineup for this key road matchup.

The short-term illness callouts come after both forwards were expected to be available, forcing head coach Mike Sullivan into last-minute adjustments.
Rempe, the 23-year-old 6-foot-9 physical winger, had worked his way back into a regular spot and was bringing bruising forecheck minutes and intimidation value every night he was healthy. His absence takes away that size and punch, especially on the fourth line, where he's consistently rotated heavy minutes to set the tone.
Perreault, 20 and one of the Rangers' key offensive prospects, also won't play due to illness. Perreault's recent development and scoring instincts added a spark to the bottom six, and his absence limits New York's options for third-line scoring balance tonight.
UPDATE: Gabe Perreault and Matt Rempe will not play tonight (illness).
With both scratches now official, the Rangers are now forced to run 11 forwards and 7 defenseman, as they are without captain J.T. Miller as well.
NYR warmup lines vs. Predators:

Panarin-Zibanejad-Lafrenière
Cuylle-Trocheck-Sheary
Othmann-Laba-Raddysh
Carrick-Brodzinski

Gavrikov-Schneider
Soucy-Borgen
Robertson-Morrow
Vaakanainen

Quick
Shesterkin

Blueshirts have to go 11/7 without Miller, Rempe and Perreault.
The illness absences also underscore how prone teams can be to late roster changes this time of year, especially on the road.
The Predators will surely try to exploit these absences, pushing hard to control possession early. The Rangers will need crisp zone exits and disciplined defensive coverage to weather this early disruption.
