NHL Insider Reveals The Extent of the New York Rangers Front Office Shakeup
The New York Rangers will look different in Madison Square Garden next season, as The Athletic's Arthur Staple has given us insight into who remains in the organization. This was following the dismissal of Peter Laviolette from the Rangers' Head Coaching job.
It is a sad day when you see someone lose their livelihood, and for Peter Laviolette, he has joined fellow colleague Gerard Gallant in the unemployment line. Like Gallant, Laviolette had a short shelf life here.
Of course, following the end of a coach's tenure in an NHL organization, there remain questions of who will stick around after the fact.
For GM Chris Drury, it seems like cleaning house at this point only meant relieving Laviolette of his duties.
Goalie Coach Jeff Malcolm and skills coach Christian Hmura will stay with the Rangers organization.
While the Rangers as a whole haven't been the best team they can be under Peter Laviolette, Malcolm has continued to give the Rangers quality goaltending as Jonathan Quick and Igor Shesterkin have had to bear the burden of the 2024-2025 season.
Quick would end the 2024-2025 season with an 11-7-2 record, 3.17 GAA, and an .893 save percentage.
While Shesterkin, a former Vezina Trophy-winning goalie, did his best to carry the team far but ended the season with a 27-29-5 record, 2.89 GAA, and a .905 save percentage.
Maybe next season, both Hmura and Malcolm can tap into this team's full potential and turn the team around.
It seems as if they'll get another shot, unlike their colleague Peter Laviolette, who has once again worn out his welcome.
But then again, he didn't build this team, did he?
