Winter Classic stage in Miami has New York Rangers and Florida Panthers fans staring at Friday like it's already puck drop.

The NHL dropped a first real look at how loanDepot park will be dressed up for the Discover 2026 Winter Classic, and it leans hard into the whole «snow meets South Beach» idea.
The rendering splits the field into two worlds, beach on one side and winter on the other. The league even spelled out the details, with flamingos and beach chairs opposite snow-topped seating and a lifeguard stand that includes a snowplow twist.
"On the left, a typical sandy South Florida winter includes flamingos, umbrella beach chairs, a lifeguard shack and a street hockey rink. To mark this historic game, snow arrives to cover the right side of the field with pelicans, snow-topped beach chairs, a lifeguard stand equipped with a snowplow and a synthetic ice rink. Palm trees dot both sides of the field,"

It's not just window dressing, either, because the plan includes extra on-field activity during breaks, with people doing beach stuff and winter stuff at the same event. It sounds goofy on paper, but it might look awesome on TV.
The build itself has been moving for a while, and the NHL has leaned on the retractable roof, air conditioning, and mobile refrigeration units to make ice work in Miami. The ballpark is expected to seat about 35,300 for the game.

Winter Classic stage gives Miami a hockey makeover

For the Rangers, the stage is a reminder they usually show up when the league hands them a spectacle. The New York Rangers are 5-0 in outdoor regular-season games, and the NHL's own outdoor game log backs up every one of those wins.
Florida is the tougher part of the equation, because the Panthers are the standard right now, and they don't care about vibes. If the Rangers want this to be more than pretty photos, they'll need bodies at the crease and pucks funnelled into the slot early.
The rink layout should also maintain tight sightlines compared to a football stadium, which is crucial for maintaining pace. Less dead space usually means rebounds, scrambles, and chaos around the blue paint.
Friday is coming fast, and this first look does its job, it makes the whole thing feel real. Now the next milestone is simple, get to the opening faceoff, and make the night worth remembering for the right reasons.
