Trusted NHL Insider Hints At Massive 3-Team Trade Could Be In Works Involving Rangers former 1st-round pick
The New York Rangers could be shopping Brennan Othmann on the market right now, while he's called up to the NHL. In doing so, this has been a perfect advertisement for a trade, as NHL Insider Pierre LeBrun suggests he could be utilized in a three-way trade.
Matt Rempe remains out with an upper-body injury as the Rangers utilize their depth available to them.
One of those pieces is Brennan Othmann, who has been called up to the NHL to fill the gap in his absence.
NHL Insider Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic has reported that three teams, including the New York Rangers, could be working out a three-way trade in order to help each other out. Could that mean Othmann is a trade-chip at the moment?
The other two teams? The Columbus Blue Jackets and the Atlantic Division's Toronto Maple Leafs.
This seems a bit more complex of a deal than we expected, but it could relieve the team of one reclamation project: Brennan Othmann.
The New York Rangers Could Combine in Trade With the Toronto Maple Leafs and Columbus Blue Jackets for Brennan Othmann
Othmann could be sent to either team, and the Rangers could find a way to secure someone like Yegor Chinakhov or Nick Robertson to slot right into the NHL lineup. Thus giving both, or all three, a fresh start in the NHL.
Arguably, Chinakhov might be the better target, as he's had experience playing on special teams and is a first-round pick of the Columbus Blue Jackets.
But Nick Robertson has plenty of upside the Maple Leafs haven't tapped into, and with the Rangers needing help in the top-six, he could be a viable option.
It's only a matter of will and a way for the team to make a move.
