Old stories never die when John Tortorella is involved, and James Duthie just added a new gem to the pile.

TSN host James Duthie revealed an untold Tortorella moment on the Morning Cuppa Hockey podcast, focusing on Tortorella's coaching years with the Tampa Bay Lightning and how that intensity later shaped his New York Rangers tenure.
Duthie openly revealed that nobody dared waste Tortorella's time, and the episode he shared proved exactly why players learned that lesson fast.
Tortorella spent eight seasons with Tampa Bay before taking over the Rangers in 2008, bringing with him a combustible mix of discipline, honesty and zero tolerance for excuses. Duthie's story captured that era, painting Torts as a coach who demanded accountability at all hours, even on the road in New York City where the famous incident occurred.
"You wasted 3 hours of my time last night, so I'm going to waste 3 hours of yours" - Torts

John Tortorella's fire still fascinates players and fans

These Tortorella stories never get old because they show how his relentlessness pushed teams beyond their comfort zones, although some players struggled under that pressure, many thrived due to his ethics.
Across 319 games behind the Rangers bench, Tortorella posted a 171-118 record, a mark that still ranks among the more successful coaching stints in modern team history. As that stretch included a run to the 2012 Eastern Conference Final, heavy shot-blocking hockey, a mark that still ranks among the more successful coaching stints in modern team history.
However, prior to the 2025-26 season, ESPN announced that John Tortorella would be joining their broadcasting team, as he was previously fired from the Philadelphia Flyers during the 2024-25 season.
"Known for his candid insights and authentic commentary, Tortorella will bring his deep understanding of the game as a veteran coach with 23 NHL seasons behind the bench, including leading the Tampa Bay Lightning to a Stanley Cup championship in the 2003-04 season," ESPN said
So i think it's safe to say that more interesting stories will emerge eventually.
