Very Positive Injury Update Has Surfaced Regarding Braden Schneider Following Day Three Of Training Camp
Training camp has begun, and the New York Rangers have already cut 13 players from the roster. Despite this latest round of cuts, we can take one positive away from it. Braden Schneider remains, and has shed the non-contact jersey according to the New York Post's Mollie Walker.
According to NHL Insider Mollie Walker, the Rangers have given the okay for defenseman Braden Schneider to shed his non-contact jersey.
This is great news for a shutdown defenseman who has had to play through injury (torn labrum) the past two seasons of his career.
Schneider would grin and bear it on a nightly basis, oftentimes wearing a brace to cope with the pain. It wasn't until April that he underwent corrective surgery.
And now, he can return to being the physical defenseman we all know he can be. For the defenseman, it's been a bumpy road. We saw last year how ineffective he seemed at times, despite putting up his best efforts.
He wasn't the same playing through injury, and it showed. Chris Drury would place his faith in him and reward him with a new contract.
Braden Schneider's New Contract and 2025 Outlook
Schneider was signed to a two-year, $2.2 million AAV (average annual value) deal this summer. This was one of two big events this summer for the defenseman who tied the knot with his fiancee, too.
Now, he's returned to the ice, healthy and ready to aim high for a top-four spot in the New York Rangers lineup.
The shedding of his non-contact jersey was just the first step, as the defenseman played a full 80-game season despite injury and managed to score 6-15-21 points.
He managed to avoid being traded to the Vancouver Canucks, while Victor Mancini would get that "honor".
With a new coach and a new captain, Schneider can put his thinking cap on and figure out how best to impact the Rangers' lineup he can.
