The New York Rangers turned back to Conor Sheary on Tuesday night against the Dallas Stars as Adam Edström's lower-body injury forced another shuffle.

Edström went down during Monday's practice and was ruled out for the matchup with the Dallas Stars. The team as unfortunately, listed him day-to-day, which is encouraging, but his absence left a massive gap. His size, reach and forechecking presence are hard to mimic inside this lineup.

Sheary, 33 years old, has not played since November 26 when he was scratched against the Carolina Hurricanes. He has spent the past week rotating through extras after a slow statistical start, but Mike Sullivan apparently prefers his predictability when the lineup needs stability over Brennan Othmann.
Sheary will slot in on the fourth line with Sam Carrick and Taylor Raddysh.

Conor Sheary gets another chance as Adam Edström heals

This move might not sit right with many fans. However, I believe Sullivan went this direction because Dallas pressures the walls aggressively. So picking Sheary, someone who isn't flashy, but rarely panics, is the type of game the Rangers need to defeat the Stars.
Sheary's return also comes at a moment when the Rangers are dealing with injuries across the roster, including Adam Fox on LTIR. With depth already stretched, every forward rotation carries more weight. A reliable shift-to-shift winger helps keep the bench balanced, especially in defensive minutes.
Again, this should only be a short-term patch, as Edström should return soon, and Othmann remains in the mix for future looks. For tonight, though, Sheary gets a chance to reassert his value and help New York survive a tough matchup.
