Tonight against the New Jersey Devils, the New York Rangers will have a new weapon in the lineup. The Rangers will deploy Arthur Kaliyev tonight against their Hudson River rivals.

Kaliyev will make his debut with the Blueshirts after being claimed off of waivers from the Los Angeles Kings on Sunday.

Tonight will be the first time he's seen NHL ice in a while, as he was previously on a conditioning loan with the Ontario Reign in the AHL.

While the Kings were unable to get the full potential they wanted out of the 2019 2nd-round draft pick, the Rangers can exploit that now.

«I've been looking for it for quite a bit of time,» Kaliyev said about his desire for a fresh start. «It's going to be really exciting here. New fresh start and opportunity to prove yourself as a player and I'm really excited for this opportunity.»

Tonight, Kaliyev will get his shot against the Rangers rivals, the Devils led by Sheldon Keefe.

Laviolette expanded on the Rangers' effort to claim the depth forward off of waivers.

«Chris (Drury) and I communicate all the time,» Laviolette said. «That goes a little bit more to his side and the people watching him. Obviously there is communication, we watch the player as well. He is a young player, there is potential there and like I said, we are bringing him in and giving him an opportunity.»

Kaliyev's contract expires in July 2025 and the newly acquired Rangers forward will be paid $825K AAV.

Depending on how the season goes with the Rangers, GM Chris Drury could retain his rights by giving him a qualifying offer of $866K, unless the team feels like the investment hasn't been good enough.

Kaliyev has played 188 NHL games, and scored 71 points( 35 G, 36 A) and has only ever played for the Kings up until this point in his career.
