Roster transaction: New York Rangers complete move as veteran defenseman won't travel with the team to Philly

According to latest reports, the Rangers won't have Soucy on the trip to Philadelphia, as the defenseman will be staying back for personal reasons. Importantly, it was also emphasized this is not trade related, so the absence is about life, not roster drama.

That clarity matters because everything around this team is getting read through a trade lens right now. With Chris Drury openly talking retool, even a missed flight starts sounding like a breadcrumb.

Still, Soucy's situation should be treated carefully, because personal means personal. However, this has forced the Rangers to recall Conor Mackey from the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League.

Soucy, 31, has played 44 games this season with 3 goals and 8 points, while averaging mid-pair usage and penalty-kill work.

On Saturday in Philadelphia, the Rangers will need cleaner exits and calmer puck touches from whoever replaces Soucy. As it appears, it will be Urho Vaakanainen.
