Significant trade buzz heats up regarding Rangers veteran as Chris Drury weighs the direction of the team

NHL insider David Pagnotta has just confirmed that there is some significant smoke surrounding New York Rangers veteran forward Vincent Trocheck.
The smoke got thicker Friday when David Pagnotta said teams have been checking in on Trocheck. He also noted the veteran has some trade protection, but the interest is real.
This lands at a brutal time, because the New York Rangers are sitting last in the Eastern Conference, and the losses are piling up. When you're buried like that, every veteran with a term becomes a conversation.
Trocheck is not a fringe name, he is 32, plays center, and he takes the hard matchups. He also has 11 goals and 27 points this season, so by no means is he slowing down in production.
New York Rangers to trade veteran forward Vincent Trocheck
If Chris Drury truly considers selling, Trocheck is the kind of piece that could bring a meaningful return. His cap hit is $5.625 million through 2028-29, and his deal shifts from full no-move protection to a modified no-trade list this season.
That clause matters, but it doesn't kill a trade, it just shapes the market. Trocheck has a 12-team no-trade list in 2025-26, which still leaves plenty of potential fits for contenders.
David Pagnotta: There's a lot of smoke surrounding the Rangers; latest I heard was Vincent Trocheck, a couple teams checking in on him; I don't know how close any of that is and he does have some trade protection, but there is interest - Sekeres & Price (1/15)
On the ice, you'd miss his details immediately, especially on draws, the penalty kill, and those greasy net-front shifts that keep a cycle alive. When he's going, the Rangers forecheck with purpose instead of chasing hope.
But selling is about timing, and interest is leverage. If Drury decides this season is beyond saving, moving a veteran center at peak demand can speed up a retool without lighting the whole thing on fire.
