Some very devastating news has just surfaced within the hockey community as a former first-round NHL Draft pick has sadly passed away.

Several reports have surfaced that confirmed the passing of Edmonton Oilers former first-round draft pick, Scott Metcalfe, has sadly passed away at 58-years old on Friday. According to reports the cause of death involving Metcalfe has not been made public at this time.
One the many sources that confirmed the heartbreaking new was the NHL Alumni Association, here's what they had to say:
The Edmonton Oilers drafted Scott Metcalfe in the 1985 NHL Draft with the 25th overall pick. However, Metcalfe didn't play for Edmonton Oilers for long as he only managed to appear in two NHL games with the Oilers in 1988.
Metcalfe was then traded to the Buffalo Sabres, where he managed to appear in just one game before he was sent down to the American Hockey League where he would spend the majority of his career, as he played nine seasons with the Rochester Americans.

Scott Metcalfe's former teammates speaking out on the heartbreaking news

One of Metcalfe's former teammates in the AHL, Jody Gage had this to say:
"It's a terribly sad day for the organization. Scott had this larger-than-life personality about him, and it resonated with Amerks fans all over Rochester. It's easy to see why he was such a fan favorite.

He wore the red, white, and blue proudly every night, was the ultimate competitor and a consummate professional who always put his teammates and the organization first.

He did so much for the community, even well after his retirement, and to this day called Rochester his home. He was absolutely beloved in the locker room and will be truly missed. My heart goes out to his wife, Jane, and their children, Tanner, Quinn, and Keegan, and all that knew him within the local hockey community during this unimaginably difficult time."

Another one of Metcalfe's teammates, Don Stevens also spoke out:
"Not sure what I will remember most about Metter: his jokester or serious side, his rugged hockey player side, his extremely intelligent, book-reading side, his fun-loving, friendly side, or his quiet, private side. Metter was extremely loyal to the team, his teammates, and his family."
May you Rest in Peace, Scott Metcalfe.
