As forward Juuso Parssinen hits waivers, the New York Rangers have opened up a roster spot for someone else. Head Coach Mike Sullivan has broken his silence on the move.
Juuso Parssinen was acquired in trade from the Colorado Avalanche near the end of last season.
Though there wasn't much expectation for him to produce at an exponential rate, there was hope he'd grow into a player the Rangers could utilize on a nightly basis.
He's shown flashes of brilliance and at other times, has been absent when the team has needed him the most.
He's played a total of 25 games for the Rangers and scored 8 points (4-4) in a bottom-six role.
Mike Sullivan on Juuso Pärssinen's play: «I think it's been sporadic. I think he's had some games where he's played very well for us. It's just competitive with some of the guys that we have and we're trying to make the best decisions for the team as possible.»
New York Rangers forward Juuso Parssinen placed on waivers
If Parssinen clears waivers, he will have to report to the AHL and play for the Hartford Wolfpack in order to work his way back up the depth charts.
In the meantime, any of the 31 other organizations in the NHL can claim the former 7th-round pick of the Nashville Predators (210th overall, 2019).
Sullivan's statement and his stats echo the truth of this; he's done his best at times to stay in the lineup, but has been pushed out by other new arrivals, like Noah Laba.
Now, with Parssinen set to head to the AHL, the team can use his spot to call up Brett Berard in the meantime.
Parssinen has played a total of 151 games in the NHL, split between the Colorado Avalanche, Nashville Predators, and the New York Rangers
