Thanks to a mistake by Brad Treliving, the New York Rangers could upgrade their broken bottom-six for free. Former Rangers forward Sammy Blais has been placed on waivers, and he could be had for free.
On Wednesday, the Toronto Maple Leafs welcomed back a regular into the lineup ahead of the game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Nic Roy, Auston Matthews, and Matthew Knies will return, while forward Sammy Blais?
This presents an opportunity for the New York Rangers to upgrade a bottom-six that has had to send Juuso Parssinen to the AHL on waivers.
Blais was a waiver claim by the Maple Leafs at the end of training camp from the Montreal Canadiens. The 29-year-old was sent to the AHL soon after.
What could Sammy Blais bring to the New York Rangers?
Blais has been a verifiable force on the bottom-six for the Maple Leafs this season:
The former fourth-round pick of the 2014 NHL Draft got a call-up amid the insane rash of injuries befalling the Maple Leafs. Blais rewarded the Maple Leafs with a solid eight games this season. He has one goal and two assists while playing a fourth-line role predominantly.
Blais has done all of this while playing under ten minutes a night for the Toronto Maple Leafs in the NHL.
If he ends up clearing, the team will have him as a call-up option for the Maple Leafs, but the Rangers could benefit from his services.
