New York Rangers head coach Mike Sullivan addresses Brett Berard's lack of ice time against the St. Louis Blues after he sparked some major controversy on Monday night.

Head coach Mike Sullivan sparked some major controversy among fans, as it appeared he was holding back on playing Brett Berard during Monday night's game against the Blues.
On Sunday night, the New York Rangers decided to recall 23-year-old forward Brett Berard from the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League due to the fact that captain J.T. Miller is sidelined with an upper-body injury and will be considered day-to-day.
Unfortunately, how Mike Sullivan decided to utilize Brett Berard's time during Monday night's game truly upset some fans, and rightfully so, as the 23-year-old forward only managed to see a total of 9:21 minutes of ice time throughout three periods with only with only 2:33 minutes coming from the second period.
#NYR Brett Berard played just 2:33 in the 2nd period.

He has a total of 5:48 TOI tonight, which is the least of all skaters in the game.

Mike Sullivan addresses the why Brett Berard only received a total of 9:21 TOI

However, following the game, Mike Sullivan was asked by Jonny Lazurs as to why Berard received such little ice time, and Sully provided a very honest reason behind why:
"It was more just matchups and the flow of the game when the commercial breaks came and match. A lot of it had to do with matchups. We were looking for certain things, and so it. So there wasn't anything that he did or didn't do."

"Yet I would have liked him to be a little more responsible with his stick there in the third. That would just in those areas. That's an important element of the game, but I really liked his energy. He brought some speed. We had a couple good looks at the net. You know, he shoots the puck. Um, you know, he's a good kid. He plays hard. And did."
The New York Rangers managed to put an end to their four-game losing streak as they took a 3-2 victory over the Blues at Madison Square Garden, so that's what truly matters at the end of the night.
