The New York Rangers are in a tight race in the Eastern Conference. Every point counts, and Vinnie Trocheck's warning to the rest of the conference comes with a purpose.
At 11-11-2 in the Metropolitan Division, in 8th place, the New York Rangers need to stack every win they can.
The team didn't begin the year well, with a 3-5-2 in their first ten games, and have failed to put together any meaningful win streaks aside from their West Coast Trip in October (Edmonton, Vancouver, and Seattle).
This has put them in a precarious spot later in the season as they'll have to claw themselves out of the bottom, in the hope they can become a playoff contender again.
Last night's win against the St. Louis Blues was important:
Vincent Trocheck on the importance of tonight's win vs. St. Louis:
"We need wins. The East is so tight right now. Any win you jump four spots and a loss you drop four spots. We needed this one"
The Rangers managed to piece together a win last night against the St. Louis Blues, which was important to Trocheck.
In addition, instead of focusing on streaks, Trocheck had a sobering take on the situation: manage the highs and lows of the year.
"I think we're just focusing on each game one at a time right now. That's all we can really do. Can't really focus on if we're on a losing streak or a winning streak. You gotta make sure you manage the highs and lows and take every win as they come"
- Vincent Trocheck
The warning is pretty simple: we're focusing on every game individually, and managing them as they go. Keep it simple.
While Vinnie Trocheck contributed a point, and Adam Fox contributed two assists, along with Alexis Lafreniere, Adam Edstrom added a point to the bucket each.
They will need more efforts like last night in order to regain ground lost in the East.
