Alexandre Texier's fate with the New York Rangers has been confirmed. The former St. Louis Blues forward was placed on waivers for the purpose of contract termination. He's found a new home now.
Former 2nd-round pick of the Columbus Blue Jackets (45th overall in 2017), Alexandre Texier has a new home in the NHL.
After spending 39 games in the Blues uniform and being sent to the AHL to make a spot for Jimmy Snuggerud in the lineup, Texier is poised for new things.
The former Blues forward won't be signing with GM Chris Drury and the New York Rangers. Instead, he'd signed with GM Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens.
Unlike some GMs in the NHL who collect veterans like infinity stones (Ken Holland, looking at you), Hughes is adding another young player to the lineup.
The Montreal Canadiens Acquire Forward Alexandre Texier on Sunday
The 26-year-old forward hasn't realized his full potential in the NHL and has played mainly as a bottom-six forward in recent years.
Although he had a promising start with the Columbus Blue Jackets, his star has long since fallen.
However, in 39 games, he'd never scored more than 12 points (6-6) and wasn't an impact player.
But in Montreal, he could get a fresh start under Martin St. Louis and maybe find his game.
Texier began his NHL career during the 2018-19 season with the Columbus Blue Jackets, and played 3 games in the 2019 playoffs against the Tampa Bay Lightning as a rookie.
The former 2nd-round pick in the 2017 NHL draft will make $1 million AAV with the Montreal Canadiens. Quite a sum shy of the $4.2 million the forward made in St. Louis.
